La Trobe University Graduate Research Scholarship 2025

La Trobe University is offering a number of graduate research scholarship packages to support outstanding graduate researchers in pursuing a higher degree by research. These scholarships provide a generous stipend, tuition fee scholarship, and additional allowances.

This opportunity is open to domestic and international students to undertake a PhD or Master's by Research at La Trobe University. Applications are now open, with successful candidates expected to commence between 1 July and 30 November 2025.

Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
• Stipend value: $35,000 per annum, paid fortnightly, for up to 3.5 years for doctoral degrees and up to 22 months for Masters by Research.
• Other supports: Relocation and thesis/publication allowance.
• Additional opportunities: Access to professional development programs and collaboration with La Trobe’s outstanding researchers.
• Study Level: PhD / Masters by Research
• Study Course: Open to all study areas aligned with La Trobe’s priority research areas
• Citizen type: Australian citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens, and international students
• Number of positions: Limited
• Duration: Up to 3.5 years for a PhD and up to 22 months for a Master's by Research
• Deadline: 31 March 2025 (International applicants), 30 April 2025 (Domestic applicants)

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Meet the entrance requirements for the PhD or Master's by Research program at La Trobe University.

• Not be receiving another scholarship greater than 75% of the stipend rate for the same purpose.

• Plan to be enrolled full-time and conduct research at a La Trobe University campus.

• Have completed a Master's by Research or have a significant research background, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, with a standard of 75% or above.

Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities.
Eligible Study Programs: Any research topic aligned with La Trobe’s priority research areas.

Selection Criteria 

Selection is based on academic merit and research potential, including:

• Previous academic performance and research achievements

• The relevance of the proposed research to La Trobe’s priority areas

• Research experience, demonstrated through publications, thesis work, or relevant professional experience

• Recommendations from referees
