The University of Newcastle is offering Sports Scholarships to encourage and support students with demonstrated sporting ability. These scholarships aim to enhance the university's sporting achievements, raise its profile in the sports sector, and establish a standard of excellence that complements its academic reputation.

This opportunity is open to students who have attained an equivalent sporting standard at the district representative level and are committed to representing the University of Newcastle in sporting events, clubs, and inter-university competitions.

Scholarships Overview 

  • Schoolarship type: Partial Funding
  • Stipend value: $2,000 paid after the census date in the semester in which the scholarship is offered

  • Study Level: Undergraduate

  • Study Course: Open to all study areas

  • Citizen type: Domestic and international students

  • Number of positions: 5

  • Duration: One semester

  • Deadline: 05 March 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have received an offer of admission to an undergraduate program at the University of Newcastle before or in the Main Round UAC offers.

  • Be commencing full-time study at the University of Newcastle.

  • Have attained an equivalent sporting standard in the previous two years at a district representative level for an Under 17 or older age district team as a minimum.

  • Be interested in representing the University of Newcastle in sporting clubs, inter-university competitions, and similar opportunities.

  • Not have previously received this scholarship.

Eligible course or study program: Any undergraduate program at the University of Newcastle

Selection Criteria 

The selection process will be based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated sporting ability at the district representative level or higher.

  • Academic merit and commitment to balancing academic and sporting excellence.

  • Willingness to contribute to the sporting achievements of the University of Newcastle.

  • Interviews may be conducted as part of the selection process.

Required Documentation

Applicants must provide the following documents as part of their application:

  • A personal statement (approximately one A4 page) outlining academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how the scholarship will assist them.

  • A written reference confirming sporting achievements, including selection for and participation in highlight events.

  • Evidence of selection in a representative team or participation in a highlight event, including web links to details of selection and participation, published articles, and results.

  • CV, club memberships, or additional relevant documents.
