To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

    • Computer Science, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering (for Topic 4)

  • Possess strong communication and scientific writing skills

  • Be able to work collaboratively in a research team

  • Have prior experience in community ecology, biodiversity science, AI, or computational modeling (advantageous)

  • Demonstrate skills in R programming, machine learning, or image processing (highly desirable for Topic 4)

  • Be ready to commence their PhD by July 2025

Selection Criteria 

Selection will be based on academic excellence and research potential, including:

  • Research experience and skills, including publications and projects

  • Recommendations from academic referees

  • Technical expertise in relevant research methods (e.g., programming, AI, or ecological fieldwork)

  1. Dark-diversity and Community Completeness in Rehabilitated Vegetation – Investigating species pools and phylogenetic patterns in restored ecosystems.

  2. Functional Trait Spaces and Community Assembly in Rehabilitated Vegetation – Analyzing the impact of functional traits on ecological restoration.

  3. Theoretical Modeling of Community Saturation and Assembly Scenarios – Developing models for niche-focused vs. neutral community assembly.

  4. AI-Based Monitoring Tools for Ecological Restoration – Designing machine learning tools for species and trait-based ecosystem monitoring.
