Forrest Research Foundation Postgraduate Scholarships 2025

The Forrest Research Foundation, in collaboration with five partner universities in Western Australia, offers PhD scholarships to outstanding researchers from Australia and around the world. The scholarships aim to support candidates in conducting world-leading research, providing them with financial support, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.

Forrest PhD Scholars live and study at Forrest Hall, an inspiring academic community designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. Scholars engage in groundbreaking research that has the potential to drive global change in their respective fields.

 Scholarship Overview 

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Stipend value: Living allowance between AU$32,192 – AU$37,000 per year, indexed annually
  • Accommodation Allowance: AU$24,128 per year (2024 value), indexed annually, covering a luxury self-contained studio apartment at Forrest Hall. Scholars with resident dependent children may be offered a two-bedroom apartment (subject to availability). If a residency exemption is granted, the allowance can contribute towards other accommodation costs.
  • Relocation and Research Travel Allowance: Up to AU$12,000 for approved research-related expenses and overseas research/conference travel, plus economy airfare to Perth for the scholar and their immediate dependents.
  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
  • Study Level: PhD by Research
  • Study Course: Open to all study areas
  • Citizen type: Domestic and international students
  • Number of positions: Limited slots available each year
  • Duration: Up to 4 years, subject to satisfactory progress
  • Applications Open: 16 September 2025
  • Deadline: October 31, 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have an exceptional academic record and be among the top-performing students in their undergraduate and graduate studies.

  • Meet the English language admission standards of their chosen university before submitting their application.

  • Secure admission into a PhD program at one of the five participating Western Australian universities:

    • Curtin University

    • Edith Cowan University

    • Murdoch University

    • The University of Notre Dame Australia (Fremantle Campus)

    • The University of Western Australia

  • Be committed to research with significant impact and demonstrate leadership potential.

  • Reside at Forrest Hall during the scholarship period (unless granted an exemption).

Selection Criteria 

The selection criteria will be based on merit and outstanding academic and research achievements, including:

  • Academic excellence (GPA, rankings, honors)

  • Research potential and alignment with global challenges

  • Strength of research proposal

  • Relevance of research to prior studies

  • Professional and leadership experience

  • Strong recommendations from academic referees

  • Research skills demonstrated through publications and projects
