Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarships (TGRS) 2025

The University of Tasmania offers the Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarships (TGRS) to support high-quality domestic and international candidates pursuing research in various disciplines. This scholarship aims to attract outstanding candidates with demonstrated research ability to undertake full-time Masters or Doctoral research degrees at the University of Tasmania.

 Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship Type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Stipend Value: Living allowance of $33,511 per year (2025 rate, indexed annually). Includes limited paid sick leave, maternity, and parenting leave.
  • Other Supports: Relocation allowance of up to $2,000 for eligible candidates.
  • Health Insurance: University of Tasmania Fees Offset for up to four years (international applicants).
  • Study Level: Masters/PhD by Research
  • Study Course: Open to all research disciplines.
  • Citizen Type: Domestic and International students
  • Number of Positions: Competitive and based on available funding.
  • Duration:
    • Up to 2 years for Masters by Research.
    • Up to 3.5 years for PhD (Doctoral) candidates.
  • Deadline: February 1, 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify for the TGRS, applicants must:

  1. Have completed at least four years of tertiary education and achieved an upper second-class Honours degree or equivalent.
  2. Be enrolling in a full-time research Masters or Doctoral degree in 2025.
  3. Not be receiving another equivalent award, scholarship, or salary to undertake the proposed program if that income exceeds 75% of the base Research Training Program stipend rate.

Selection Criteria 

Selection is based on the following:

  1. Academic Merit: Performance in previous academic studies, including GPA and class ranking.
  2. Research Potential: Demonstrated through a research thesis, proposal, and prior achievements.
  3. Alignment with Strategic Research Areas: Priority is given to research in areas of strategic importance to the University of Tasmania.
  4. Professional Experience: Relevance and contribution to the chosen research field.
  5. Referees and Recommendations: Strong endorsements from referees familiar with the applicant's academic and research capabilities.

Required Documents for Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship

Applicants must submit:

  • A copy of their passport.
  • A signed Supervisory Support Form.
  • A detailed Research Proposal.
  • Certified transcripts/academic records and degree certificates.
  • A copy of their research thesis (from Honours or Masters degree).
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) with referees’ contact details.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (if required).
