Western Sydney University PhD Scholarship 2025

This scholarship opportunity, offered by Western Sydney University (WSU), supports outstanding domestic and international research candidates to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in concrete durability. The project aims to develop a new generation of integral waterproofing admixtures with nano-hydrophobic and crystalline properties, enhancing concrete's self-healing ability and reducing long-term repair costs.

The scholarship enables candidates to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by Research at WSU, contributing to improved safety and serviceability of concrete infrastructure in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold one of the following qualifications:
    • Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree,
    • Coursework Master’s with at least 25% research component,
    • Research Master’s degree, or
    • Equivalent overseas qualifications.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance in chemical engineering, polymer engineering, and/or material engineering/science.
  • Show an understanding of concrete durability and its significance.
  • Be enthusiastic about learning cement and concrete chemistry.
  • Be highly motivated to undertake advanced-level research.
  • International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements.

Selection Criteria

The selection process is merit-based and considers:

  • Academic achievements in relevant fields.
  • Research potential in concrete durability and admixture development.
  • Alignment of chosen study program with previous qualifications.
  • Relevant professional experiences.
  • Recommendations from referees.
  • Research skills demonstrated through publications or prior projects.
