Unisq CSIRO Industry PhD Program Scholarship

The CSIRO Industry PhD Program (iPhD) is designed to cultivate the next generation of innovation leaders equipped with the skills needed to navigate and collaborate at the intersection of research and industry in Australia. This program is open to PhD candidates, offering the opportunity to engage in high-impact industry-oriented research alongside academic and industry partners. Upon successful completion, students will receive a standard PhD from the participating university.

Project Title: Call Centre Service Training and Quality Improvement System
Project Description: Call centre operators often engage with clients in distressing circumstances, such as the frail elderly, individuals experiencing mental health crises, and victims of violence. Effective interaction in these situations is crucial to achieving positive outcomes. This project aims to develop algorithms that analyze vocal properties of both callers and callees to provide real-time feedback to operators, enhancing response quality.

  • Scholarship type: Fully funded PhD Scholarship
  • Value: $46,000 per annum (2024 rate) for 4 years
  • Project Expense and Development package: $13,000 per annum
  • Industry Engagement Component: 3 months

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident, or a New Zealand citizen
  • Meet the PhD admission requirements of the participating university
  • Fulfill university English language requirements
  • Not have previously completed a PhD
  • Be able to commence the Program in the year of the offer
  • Enroll as a full-time PhD student
  • Be willing to be based at the approved project location(s) and comply with any necessary external enrollment procedures

Selection Criteria 

Ideal candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Strong skills and proven experience in programming and system development
  • Proficiency in Python programming
  • Experience in developing Machine Learning models using TensorFlow or PyTorch (desirable)

How to Apply

  1. Applicants must submit their application to supervisor Rajib Rana.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by the supervisory team, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
  3. The preferred candidate will be nominated by the supervisory team.
  4. The selected applicant will then be instructed to apply to the host university.
  5. The host university will assess the application based on its PhD admission criteria.
  6. If all conditions are met, the university will issue an offer letter for the program.
