University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships 2025

The University of Sydney is offering the prestigious Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships for 2025 to support outstanding research students from Australia and around the world. This scholarship provides comprehensive financial and academic support to domestic and international students pursuing Higher Degree by Research (HDR) programs at one of Australia’s leading universities.

This opportunity is open to students intending to undertake a Master’s by Research or PhD at the University of Sydney. Some useful application tips are provided at the end of this guide.

Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Stipend value: Living allowance of $41,753 per annum (2025 rate), indexed annually.
  • Relocation Allowance: Up to $1,485 for travel expenses from the home country to Sydney at the start of the degree, plus an additional $1,485 for return travel upon successful program completion.
  • Thesis Allowance: Up to $420 for Master’s and $840 for PhD candidates for eligible thesis production costs.
  • Paid Leave: Up to 20 working days of recreation leave and 10 working days of sick leave per year, with extended provisions for paid sick and parental leave.
  • Study Level: Master’s/PhD by Research
  • Study Course: Open to all study areas
  • Citizen type: Domestic and international students
  • Number of positions: Limited; exact number varies annually
  • Duration: Up to 2 years for Master’s by Research and up to 4 years for PhD programs
  • Deadline: January 1, 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for the University of Sydney RTP Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have an outstanding academic record and demonstrate significant research potential.
  • Be enrolled in or intend to enroll full-time in an HDR program at the University of Sydney (part-time enrollment may be approved under specific circumstances).
  • Not have previously completed an HDR program at the same level or received an Australian Government or University scholarship for an HDR course at the same level.

Eligible course or study program: Open to all study areas offered at the University of Sydney.
