The JCU Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship is part of James Cook University’s commitment to reward and support high-achieving school leavers in Australia. This prestigious scholarship awards $40,000 over four years, providing financial aid to exceptional undergraduate students who are beginning their full-time studies at JCU in Study Period One, 2025. Applicants for this scholarship do not need to submit a separate application; eligibility is assessed automatically for Year 12 applicants. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Complete Year 12 in 2024 and begin their studies at JCU in 2025.
- Enroll as a domestic student for full-time study in an eligible undergraduate program at JCU in Study Period One, 2025.
- Achieve an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) of 97.00 or above (or an equivalent International Baccalaureate score).
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder, Australian Permanent Resident, or New Zealand citizen.
- Not be enrolled in or planning to study Medicine, Veterinary Science, or Dentistry.
- Not be a recipient of any other JCU-funded scholarship.
Selection Criteria
Selection for the JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship is based on academic merit, with applicants automatically assessed upon applying for admission to JCU. Only Year 12 graduates who meet the ATAR and enrollment requirements will be notified of their award upon admission.

How to apply
- Submit an application to an eligible JCU undergraduate program via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
- JCU will assess your application for scholarship eligibility.
- Notifications of successful scholarship recipients will accompany the offer of admission.
- The scholarship offer rounds commence after ATAR results are published in December 2024.
Ongoing Eligibility Requirements
To retain the JCU Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship, recipients must:
- Maintain full-time enrollment in their original course of study or another eligible JCU undergraduate program.
- Achieve a minimum GPA of 5.5 in the first year and a GPA of 6.0 in the subsequent years. Students falling below this GPA may submit a statement of reason, backed by evidence of special circumstances, to be considered for retention by the College Dean.
Conditions of the Scholarship
- Deferment of study for up to one year is allowed (beginning in 2026).
- Taking leave of absence without approval may lead to disqualification from the scholarship.
- Changes in the study program will require approval for scholarship continuation from the relevant Dean.
- Non-compliance with scholarship terms may result in suspension or termination at the discretion of the Dean.
Administration of the Scholarship
The JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship is managed by the JCU Scholarships Office on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. The funds are administered in an account in the name of the university, and JCU is not liable for benefits or obligations from external bodies associated with the scholarship.
