University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships 2025

Graduate Research Scholarships 2025 provide an outstanding opportunity for international students to pursue master's or doctoral degrees in Australia at the prestigious University of Melbourne. The program includes the Melbourne Research Scholarships and the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships. These fully funded scholarships offer domestic and international students a chance to engage in higher degree research (HDR) programs, such as a Master's by research or PhD, at the University of Melbourne. As one of Australia’s leading institutions, Melbourne University offers world-class education, research facilities, and an international platform for knowledge exchange.

Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee coverage
  • Stipend value:  living allowance of $37,000 
  • Relocation allowance: $2,000 for students relocating from within Australia, and $3,000 for international students from outside Australia
  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
  • Study level: Masters/PhD by Research
  • Study areas: Open to all academic fields and research areas
  • Citizen type: Domestic and international students
  • Number of positions: Approximately 600
  • Duration: Up to 2.5-3 years for a Master’s program and 3.5-4 years for a PhD
  • Application deadline: 31 October 2024

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships 2025:

  • Applied for and met the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate research program at the University of Melbourne
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (16 years of education) or equivalent with at least 75% grades for a Master’s by research program
  • Hold a master’s degree (18 years of education) or equivalent with at least 75% grades for a PhD program
  • Have demonstrated research potential at their previous level of study (undergraduate or master’s)
  • Meet the University’s English language proficiency requirements
  • Good medical health

Selection Criteria 

Selection for these scholarships is merit-based and includes:

  • Academic achievements (e.g., grades, ranking)
  • Research potential and relevance of the chosen program
  • Prior research experience and publications
  • Professional experiences in the chosen field of study
  • Recommendations from referees

Additional Application Requirements
Some faculties may require the following additional documents:

  • Research proposal
  • TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English, or equivalent test scores (if applicable)
  • Letters of recommendation from two referees (academic or professional)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Creative works portfolio, GRE/GMAT scores, or writing samples (depending on the course)
  • Final academic transcripts

There is no separate application for the Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships. Applicants must apply for admission to a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne and will be automatically considered for the scholarship if eligible. To apply:
