JCU Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Scholarships 

James Cook University (JCU) offers Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Scholarships to support exceptional research students in Australia and globally. These scholarships aim to attract high-quality students to contribute to impactful research across diverse fields at JCU.

The scholarships are available for both domestic and international students pursuing a Master's by Research or PhD at James Cook University. Below are the detailed benefits and eligibility criteria for these scholarships.

Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship Type: Full tuition fee cover
• Stipend Value: Living allowance of AUD $34,002.50 P.a
• Study Level: Master's by Research / PhD
• Study Course: Open to various study areas, including but not limited to marine biology, tropical ecology, medicine, public health, and environmental science.
• Citizen Type: International students
• Number of Positions: Limited
• Duration: Up to 2 years for a Master's by Research, and up to 3.5 years for a PhD
• Deadline: 31 August 2025

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Have applied for and met the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at James Cook University, or

• Be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at James Cook University.

• Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible for this scholarship.

• Eligible Course or Study Program: Any program related to the research focus areas of JCU.

Selection 

The selection criteria for these scholarships are merit-based and consider the following factors:

• Academic Achievements: Performance in previous studies, including grades, rank, and overall academic excellence.
• Research Potential: Demonstrated ability and potential in research, relevant to the field of study.
• Relevance of Chosen Program: Alignment between the applicant's previous academic background and the proposed research program.
• Professional Experience: Relevant work or research experience that enhances the applicant's research capabilities.
• References: Strong recommendations from academic referees who can attest to the applicant's research potential.
• Research Skills: Evidence of research capabilities, such as publications or conference presentations.
